Rosa from Peru:

Rosa works as a domestic worker while building towards a future in catering
Rosa comes from a small town in Peru. She completed lower secondary education but had few opportunities for stable, formal work. The financial situation of her family became increasingly difficult, and there were additional problems in her family and partnership. Rosa decided to migrate alone in order to earn money and create a better future for her children. Her two children stayed with their grandmother in Peru.
In the host country, Rosa had to deal with many administrative steps, forms and long waiting times. She managed to collect all the necessary documents and now has a residence permit. This gives her more security, and she feels happy that she has managed this difficult process. At the same time, she still carries the emotional difficulty of being separated from her children. Rosa has very good language skills and continues to use municipal language courses to remain confident with written communication and administrative matters. She tries to stay strong by using her faith, her church community and her practical skills.
Rosa works as a domestic worker and also cooks for families. Cooking gives her joy and is also an important future perspective for her. Her church community is an important place of support. She goes to mass regularly, finds peace in prayer and community, and helps at church events. Sometimes she also helps in the soup kitchen. Through the church, Rosa finds contacts, stability and emotional support.
Rosa’s greatest wish is to bring her children to live with her and create a stable home for them in the host country. She also wants to build on her cooking skills and, in the long term, develop a small catering activity from home. She would like to learn more about self-employment, hygiene rules, budgeting and small business management, so that her idea can become a realistic plan. She also wants to continue using language courses and community support to stay confident with forms, letters and administrative matters.
