Clara comes from Ukraine and has a master’s degree in medicine. The war in Ukraine was a turning point for her and influenced her decision to move to the host country. At the same time, she wanted to continue her medical career and work towards specialist training. Clara is single and has a daughter. She first came to the host country alone, while her daughter stayed with the grandparents in Ukraine. After Clara found a place to live and became more settled in everyday life, she brought her daughter to live with her.
Clara’s medical qualification is not immediately recognised in the host country. For this reason, she currently works as a nurse while preparing the next steps towards recognition. This is difficult for her, because she has already studied medicine and wants to work at the level of her qualification. She also has to balance work, the recognition process, exam preparation and her responsibility as a mother. Her language skills are good for many everyday situations, but she still needs to improve them for professional recognition and specialist training. Clara tries to stay focused and courageous, even when the process takes longer than expected.
Clara finds balance through painting. She also attends cultural events and exhibitions, where she has built a small network of friends and contacts. This helps her feel more connected to her new environment. Clara uses her medical knowledge carefully in the community, for example by supporting health-awareness activities, community health days and local information services. She is recognised for her reliability, her commitment and her willingness to help.
Clara wants her medical qualifications that she got so far to be recognised in the host country. She wants to complete the necessary procedures, exams and further training so that she can continue her path towards becoming a specialist doctor. She knows that this will take time, but she is ready to keep learning. Her goal is to build a stable future for herself and her daughter. In the long term, she would like to use her medical knowledge to support people who need better access to healthcare.
